M.A.G.

These boys are my niggaz and I have nothing but praise to give them. Many people get down on them because Mike's vocals are quite piercing at times, and to the novice "Bro's Keep" fan they can be damn annoying, I admit. But get to know them and appreciate what they are all about and you'll love them like I do. This is their most inventive work to date, with them adding a new bag of tricks to their already set style, and making it a bit more raw in the mix department, which makes this more of a "hardcore" record than the last. Uplifting 90's hardcore for the hardcore at heart. Too bad this is only six songs and too bad they live seven hours away from me.

Doo Wrong

This is the first time I had ever heard them, and I'm proud that I bought this 7". The driving style hardcore, with Mike Ski's unique vocals give this release an all around good kick in the patoot. Also, it's on Trustkill Records, which is one of my favorite labels with bands like Endeavor and Despair. Go get it now, if you haven't yet!

The Unfinished Zine

Boy it is really weird, I mean, this is awesome. Bro Keep is one of the best bands in hardcore today, but the weird part is that whenever I listen to this I think of guys driving SUV's (like in every rap video) with systems playing Sugar Hill Gang and Bro Keep, or Animal Liberation written on the front windshield, like where all those gangsters have their car names written. Wow! I know that is weird but that's what comes to mind. This is what happens when old school hip-hop meets up with new school hardcore... and the end result would not be one of those stupid tough guy bands. I just love this a lot, even though Mike Ski has the worst voice in hardcore. But I guess it makes this even better. If you like bands like Endeavor or One King Down, you'll love this.

Second Nature

What? Haven't heard of Bros Keeper? Where have you been? Yeah, they're the band with the vocals no one can get past. I dug the last disc and feel the same about this one. It is the same "word-core" that Bros Keeper playbest with some more upbeat parts in this mix. I think that is why I like this one more than the last. Even though some of the songs are similar to those on the last record. Six songs on this, I think three on the vinyl, but either way, this is a good record. It is even better to see them live. One of the most energetic bands you will ever see. To everyone's surprise, I support BK.

Tail Spins

There are two camps of straightedgers that either love these guys or don't - with usual point of contention being "the voice." You see Mike Ski screams in a very high pitched almost falsetto that definitely throws you off when you first hear it. Now my first exposure to these lads was a live performance - one of the best I've ever seen, so "the voice" didn't really bother me when I bought their second CD "The Continuum" at the show. Now I have to admit, when I put this new EP into the player it took me a couple of minutes to get readjusted, but soon enough I was floorpunching to my heart's content. Brothers' Keeper subscribes to the Snapcase school of hardcore with a groove, complete with a mighty guitar crunch and a powerful double kick pedal. Add Mike's original vocals and you have one of the best hardcore bands around, especially if you can catch them live.

Hanging Like A Hex

Erie, PA's favorite sons return with 6 songs (four on the seven inch) of their driving, moshable, yet unique blend of hardcore. The low rumble of EMS's bass, the propelling rhythms of drummer Rob Williams, Chris Bazen's driving guitar, the freak-out tweaked-out pitch of guitarist Scott Emhoff, and vocalist Mike Ski's high end screamfest of dichotomy and payback make for their best sounding material thus far. Although this one only has a couple of masterpieces, while the rest keep the flow on, in contrast to their full length "The Continuum", which was one memorable jam after another. "No Love For The Haters" has to be one of the hardest jams I've heard all year.

In Effect

This record is cool! Weird ass riffs (like the amazing Coalesce), tempo changes, wah-wah pedal (used effectively) and these guys are straight edge. How can you make music this fucked up without being on drugs??? Indecision fans should like this. Did I hear a slide guitar or am I just burnt?

Sliver

Finally it came out, and I am a happy camper. These hardcore badboys keep it real to say the least.  Brother's Keeper is one of my favorite bands, and they never fail to impress.  This release took a bit of coaxing because I was so attached to their previous release, The Continuum. Soon after a few listens I was hooked, and now have both CD's constantly by the stereo.  Brother's Keeper are heavy, energetic, and in your face.  Self Fulfilling Prophecy hits hard with extremely technical guitars, and crazy vocals.  This is the closest you will get to hearing their live set because it sounds just like it.

Nothing Left

Okay, let's talk about how many terrible hardcore bands that are out there. A lot. Now, let's talk about the fact that Brother's Keeper are not one of them. I really wasn't too impressed witht their past release, "The Continuum," however, this is much better. Good, positive lyrics with that high pitched yell of Mike's. Although I hate the cover design of this CD, The Keeper are way ahead of the times and doing an excellent job at it. This CD rocks the house to the left and to the right.

I Stand Alone

I can't decide if this band or BTGOG are more amazing live (for now BTGOG have 'em by the nose cuz Rob bleeds more). However, Mike has proven that he can sing higher than Rob, it was pretty close though. Self-Fulfilling Prophecy shows a decisive positive evolution from "The Continuum" in both lyrical and musical content. With this release BK have once again proved that they aren't afraid to be themselves and create their own distinct style of hardcore. If you haven't heard them yet there isn't another band out there I would recommend checking out more.

Black Heart

Daaaaaaaaam, these guys are back and are harder than ever. This release has the technical brilliance of their full length "The Continuum", the raw aggression of their original mini-cd "Ladder", and the macho backups of their original now legendary 7". This is by far the most impressive release that 'Da Keeper' has released so far. This is simply awesome. Also available on 7", but the CDep has 2 extra songs.

Very

Erie PA's favorite sons are back with a new EP that keeps their groovecore style, but adds a heavier more aggressive, more pissed off edge to it, especially in the vocals. Extra songs on the CD, and of course, as is expected, a great looking layout.

Eventide

Brother's Keepers' new EP is out and, while they've kept a lot of the technical guitar parts that made "The Continuum" stand out, they've also added a lot of crunch to it. Seriously, I want to head up to Erie to see the kids go nuts to these songs, because I'm sure that they do. For a band that's got the heaviness quota down, the lyrics are personal, which is a nice change of pace. "Dogs Will Bark" has some awesome group vocals as well. This also has one of the most impressive covers that I've seen in a long while.
